BOOKS

Infinity Net: The Autobiography of Yayoi Kusama (University of Chicago Press). Infinity Net paints a multilayered portrait of this fascinating artist. Taking us from her oppressive childhood in postwar Japan to her present life in the psychiatric hospital where she voluntarily stays - and is still productive - Kusama's autobiography offers insight into the persona of mental illness that has informed her work.

Read The Genteel's article on Kusama's recent exhibitions at the Whitney Museum in New York City and London's Tate Modern.

London: A Portrait of a City (Taschen). London is a vast sprawling metropolis, constantly evolving and growing, yet throughout its complex past and shifting present, the humour, unique character and bulldog spirit of the people have stayed constant. In addition to the wealth of images included in this book, many previously unpublished, London's history is told through hundreds of quotations, lively essays, and references from key movies, books and records.

FILM

The Rape of Europa. The Rape of Europa tells the epic story of the systematic theft, deliberate destruction and miraculous survival of Europe's art treasures during the Third Reich and the Second World War. The Rape of Europa begins and ends with the story of artist Gustav Klimt's famed Gold Portrait, stolen from Viennese Jews in 1938 and now the most expensive painting ever sold.

Read The Genteel's article on Klimt and the Birth of Modern Fashion.

About Face: The Supermodels, Then and Now. Renowned portrait photographer and filmmaker Timothy Greenfield-Sanders brings together fashion's legendary models to reflect on their careers within an industry built on, and by, their beauty. Covering the development of these famous faces from the 1940s through the 1980s, we hear through candid interviews their thoughts on a culture obsessed with youth, and their own place in it now that the signs of aging are becoming ever present. Featuring Isabella Rossellini, Jerry Hall, Beverly Johnson, Christie Brinkley, Carol Alt and more.
